Final Voyage

"The schooner Janette of this place (Green Bay) cleared last week for the fishing grounds, with a full supply of stores and fishing tackle. While beating against contrary winds a snow squall came up in conquest of which she mistook Bailey's Harbor for Mud Bay. She run into the former, striking upon the north reef and was very soon a total wreck. She was owned by the Messrs. Smith, whose families were on board and numbered ten to fifteen persons. Fortunately they had two good Mackinac fishing boats, with which the safety of the passengers and crew was accomplished. We understand that none of the stores were saved, and that the vessel went to pieces soon after she struck." Green Bay Advocate 5/8/1851
