Final Voyage

The schooner Phantom bottomed out on a sand bar after leaving the mouth of the Bad River into Lake Superior after dropping of a load of lumber for a lumber raft.. She was reported blown onto the beach in a strong northeast wind tearing out her centerboard. The anchor had been dropped, but the chain broke. Thom Holden reports there was no record of salvage attempts in the Bayfield press; vessel cannot be proved a total loss.
