Final Voyage

"The schooner-scow Sophia Lawrence, during a north wind-storm, attempted to winch herself on her anchors from Thorpe's Pier to Kirtland's pier which were a few hundred feet apart. Unfortunately, the anchors began to drag and the northerly blow steadily pushed the vessel toward the south shore of Egg Harbor. In an effort to save the craft before she beached, the crew scuttled her; unfortunately, as a result, the hull broke in two and was totally demolished."
