Final Voyage

11/26/1894 "The Speed stranded in southeast gale near the harbor entrance where the sea broke over her; crew of three men immediately took to the rigging with their bags of clothes (their yawl having broken away and drifted ashore), where they awaited the assistance of the life-saving crew. Launched the surfboat and rescued them...Spent the day gathering shingles that washed upon the beach from the wreck, thereby saving a large part of the cargo. Next day stripped the vessel of all movable parts."
