Service History

The St. Mary belonged to John McCaffery who kept employed exclusively in carrying lumber for his mills on Cedar River, Green bay.
Final Voyage

"The schooner St. Mary's left Chicago for Cedar River, Green Bay with a load of 20 tons of pig iron on September 7, 1860. Although she left port 14 hours ahead of the Lady Elgin, it is believed that she foundered in Lake Michigan after encountering the same storm which wrecked the latter. One of her small boats drifted ashore at Lill's Brewery and one crew member, William Jameson, was identified among the dead taken from the lake. The St. Mary's was valued at $6,000, but had no insurance."
