"The schooner Whirlwind, owned and sailed by Capt. Henry Wilson, of Chicago, became waterlogged during the gale Saturday night, and drifted ashore at Racine, opposite the ravine south of ex-senator Doolittle's residence, early Sunday morning, having previously been abandoned by the crew. She was loaded with hard-wood and pine lumber from Portage Pier, and will prove a total loss. The crew reached shore safely in the yawl..."
