Last Document Surrendered Milwaukee 9/22/1900: "Total Loss"
Final Voyage

"The schooner William Finch was lost in a Northwest storm at Egg Harbor on 11/7/1900. At the time of her loss, the Finch was being used by her owner, Capt. Kirtland to salvage the rigging and cargo from his wrecked schooner, the Norma. During the salvage operations, the Finch had begun leaking and was allowed to drift onto the beach virtually on top of the wreck of the Norma. Capt. Kirtland and his sailor survived the wreck but the Finch was destroyed along with her cargo."
