Depth: 52 Feet    | Condition: The vessel's remains lie scattered about 0.8 miles from shore on a rocky bottom.

The remains of the Niagara are strewn across a ¼ square mile area, approximately 8.3 statute miles north-northeast of Port Washington, Wisconsin, and about 0.8 miles from shore, almost directly east of Harrington Beach State Park, near Belgium in Ozaukee County ( LORAN : 32800.2, 48988.7; GPS : N 43° 29.313', W 87° 46.493'). The Niagara’s location, although near shore, is exposed to the force of the lake’s storms and squalls. Visitors should be alert to changing weather conditions at all times. The main body of the wreck lies in about 52 feet of water. The water temperature varies during the diving season from about 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Setting the buoy for the Niagara

The Wisconsin Historical Society, with assistance from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee WATER Institute, installed a seasonal mooring buoy at the site. All boats stopping at the site should moor to this buoy. The mooring prevents anchors from further damaging the wreck, and provides a solid and safe descent and ascent line for divers.
