The
large amount of wreckage at the Pilot Island site offers a
recreational diving opportunity of considerable interest.
The Wisconsin
Historical Society is working to place a mooring on the
site to assist divers in locating the wrecks and to prevent
damage from boats' anchors.
The
Pilot Island wrecks are owned by the State of Wisconsin and
are managed by the Wisconsin Historical Society with assistance
from Wisconsin Department
of Natural Resources . Like all historic shipwrecks in
Wisconsin waters, the wrecks are protected under Wisconsin
law. |
