Final Voyage

"The schooner Trinidad bound from Port Huron to Chicago with a cargo of coal foundered at about 5 am Wednesday 5/11/1881, approximately ten miles off Ahnapee. While off the ship canal, the Trinidad was found to be leaking, and the pumps were started, but with little effect. "Shortly before five" the crew realized she was sinking and abandoned her in their small boat. As the schooner sank, she unshipped her foremast."
