Description
Washburn's waterfront walking trail runs from Thompson West End Park to Washburn Marina. Once a bustling industrial waterfront, Washburn's Lake Superior coastline today offers visitors beautiful vistas of the Lake and the natural surroundings of Chequamegon Bay. Hints of the town's rich maritime history are seen along the trail, with reminders of the once booming lumbering and shipping industries dotting the shoreline. The walking trail is maintained by the City of Washburn and a dedicated group of volunteers, The Friends of the Washburn Lakeshore Parkway and Walking Trail. Be sure to visit the trail during different seasons, as the changing seasons provide a different backdrop ever time you visit. Parking areas can be found at either end of the trail and portions of the walking trail are handicapped accessible. Please contact the Washburn Chamber of Commerce for more information. Be sure to check out the Washburn Historical Museum to learn more about the area's maritime history. Two Maritime Trails historical markers are located along the trail, one at each end.
