Osaugie Trail and Barker's Island

Attraction
Description
The five mile long, asphalt-paved, Osaugie Waterfront Trail meanders past the one of the busiest harbors on the Great Lakes, passing several historic maritime sites. Beginning at the trailhead situated at the Superior and Douglas County Visitors Center, hikers and bikers head southeast past Superior and Allouez Bays. Just off the trail you can visit Barker's Island for a tour of the S.S. Meteor, while further along the trail passes under the Burlington Ore Dock. From this gigantic structure the ill-fated Edmund Fitzgerald made its final cargo stop in November of 1975 before heading out into the gale that would sink her. Those wishing to continue along the trail can take the four-and-a-half mile Moccasin Mike Road to Wisconsin Point, a thin strip of sandbar with miles of beaches and the Wisconsin Point Light which crowns its northern end.
