Description
Located on Mississippi River mile 702.5 near LaCrescent, Minnesota, Lock and Dam No. 7 was constructed and placed in operation in April, 1937. The lock in on the Minnesota side of the river, but there is a pathway over the top of the earth embankment along which you can walk to the lock. The dam consists of a concrete structure 940 feet long with five roller gates and 11 tainter gates. Two segments of earth embankment are 8,100 feet long from the dam to French Island. One concrete spillway is 1,000 feet long, another is 2,400 feet between French Island and Onalaska, Wisconsin, and the third is 670 feet long. The lock is 110 feet wide by 600 feet long.
