Description
Located on Mississippi River mile 714.1 at Trempealeau, Wisconsin, Lock and Dam No. 6 was constructed and placed in operation in June 1936. The dam consists of a 893-foot long concrete structure with five roller gates and 10 tainter gates. The earth embankment is 2,600 feet long with a concrete overflow spillway that is 1,000 feet long. The lock is 110 feet wide by 600 feet long. Located on the Wisconsin side of the river, there is a small parking area to watch vessels locking through.
