Description
This present pierhead light was built in 1915, although Sheboygan has been served by a lighthouse since 1839. The skeletal steel pierhead tower was topped with a circular parapet and lantern room; however, the lantern room has been removed and only the tower remains. The tower still is an active aid to navigation, marking the entrance to the harbor. It also contains a fog signal and weather monitoring devices. The tower itself is not open for visitation, but you can walk from Sheboygan's DeLand Park and Harbor Centre Marina out to the lighthouse along the breakwater. Be sure to check out the remains of the shipwreck Lottie Cooper located in DeLand waterfont park during your visit.
