Description
Both built in 1869-1870, 'this rather odd-looking set of buildings is a unique duo of Wisconsin lights. The Baileys Harbor Range Lights were built to allow mariners a safer harbor passage than the Old Baileys Harbor Lighthouse afforded. The lights guided vessels in a northwesterly direction through the treacherous shallows and reefs of the bay. Only a handful of lights of similar style exist on the Great Lakes.' (From Wisconsin Lighthouses, Ken and Barb Wardius). Although the interiors of the lights are not open to the public, the lights are accessible year-round. They are located on Ridges Road (turn east at the Sandpiper Restaurant - towards Baileys Harbor Yacht Club) off Hwy. 57. A range light will be on either side of the road. Please call the Ridges Sanctuary for more details.
