Description
Located in Rotary Park next to Port Washington's marina and with a stunning view of the harbor and Port Washington Pierhead Light, the Port Washington Fishing Families Memorial honors those who have lost their lives in the local commercial fishing industry, as well as providing local maritime history. The memorial itself is composed of a central statue of a fisherman towing a sturgeon tied to a rope, thrown over one shoulder. This is surrounded by eight different stands, detailing different aspects of the maritime heritage of Port Washington. The stands range from specific names of local fishermen and their boats, those who have lost their lives at sea, the transition of the lakefront, and the art of commercial fishing. With its beautiful setting and wealth of information, the Port Washington Fishing Families Memorial is truly a unique example of Wisconsin maritime heritage.
