Service History

The brand new wooden schooner Bohemian was launched at Buffalo New York just four months prior to going ashore at Port Washington on October 22, 1856.
Final Voyage

From the Wisconsin Historical Society Maritime Preservation and Archaeology Files: At about daylight on Saturday a vessel was discovered going ashore some distance south of the South Pier at Port Washington. It proved to be the schooner Bohemian, from Oswego for Chicago, with railroad iron. The life boat was quickly brought to the spot, and several attempts made by the gallant set of fellows to put off the schooner, but without success until the vessel struck, head on, when a lee was made on one side, and the boat put out, and brought off the crew of ten, in two trips, the captain and mate coming last." MS Monday 10/27/1856 p.2 c.5
Today

Some of Bohemian's cargo had been found when the Port Washington harbor was dredged in 1930.
The remains of the Bohemian have never been found.
