Description
Construction of the Ore Dock began in 1916. Originally constructed at 900 feet in length, a 1,925 addition brought the dock to its present length of 1,800 feet. At 80 feet high by 59 feet wide, it is the largest concrete structure of its kind. Iron-ore mined in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was shipped from the dock, though by the mid-1960's all dock operations had ceased. At one time there were five such docks in Ashland.
